Senegal had a dream start to the match as Pape Gueye found the net within the first four minutes, capitalising on a Sadio Mane assist. The early goal set the tone for a largely one-sided affair, with Senegal dictating the pace.
Despite the early lead, clear-cut chances were scarce in the first half. Musa Barrow and Ali Sowe missed crucial opportunities in the 16th and 24th minutes, respectively. The situation worsened for Gambia when Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams received a red card just before halftime, leaving them with a challenging second half.
Camara's impact in the second half
In the 52nd minute, Lamine Camara extended Senegal's lead with his first Afcon goal, doubling the advantage. Despite Habib Diallo missing an opportunity to make it 3-0, Senegal continued their aggressive pursuit of goals.
Gambia's chances of salvaging the game were shattered in the 86th minute when Lamine Camara scored a contender for the goal of the tournament, assisted by Iliman Ndiaye. The 3-0 victory solidified Senegal's dominance and showcased their determination to defend their Afcon title.
Upcoming matches
Senegal's next challenge awaits as they face Cameroon on Friday, aiming to maintain their impressive form. On the other hand, Gambia will take on Guinea, seeking redemption and a chance to bounce back from their opening defeat.
